Selected Monarch Overwintering Sites to Visit for the Winter of 2005/06

Most monarchs that arrived in late October in the Southwest, south of Los Angeles, moved Northwest along the coast to cooler temperatures because of the warm Santa Ana conditions. We have higher populations of Monarchs this year from Ventura to Marin Counties than the previous six years. Camp Pendleton has the highest population in San Diego County (830 monarchs), whereas other sites in the County only have a few monarchs.
