Flight Period:
Multiple brooded in the Southwest, Texas, and Mexico. It can overwinter as an adult in some areas, but cannot survive frigid conditions. It is commonly seen in flowerbeds, vacant lots, fields, canyons, and on hillsides.

Range: West of the Rockies from Canada and south through Mexico.

Common Host Plants:
Mallow (Malvaceae Family) and Nettle (Urticaceae Family).

Wing Span:
1 3/4 – 2″ (44 – 51 mm).

About the Monarch Program

We are open from the 1st Saturday in April through the 2nd Saturday in November. Est. in 1990, our main goal is to study the behavior and biology of monarch butterflies. We support educational programs, conservation and habitat creation.

Admission is $7.00 adult, $6.00 teens and seniors, $5.00 children 4 – 12, 3 and under is free. All proceeds are considered a donation to the organization.
