WEST COAST LADY (Vanessa annabella) Flight Period: Multiple brooded in the Southwest, Texas, and Mexico. It can overwinter as an adult in some areas, but cannot survive frigid conditions. It is commonly seen in flowerbeds, vacant lots, fields, canyons, and on hillsides. Range: West of the Rockies from Canada and south through Mexico. Common Host Plants: Mallow (Malvaceae Family) and Nettle (Urticaceae Family). Wing Span: 1 3/4 - 2" (44 - 51 mm). |
