LORQUIN'S ADMIRAL
(Laments lorquini)
Flight Period: Multiple brooded all seasons in
warm climates. The lorquin admiral larvae overwinter as a young larva
inside a curled leaf (hibernaculum). The larvae emerge in the
spring and continue their life cycle through November. It is a
showy insect named after the French collector Pierre Lorquin.
Range: Mainly Upper Sonoran to Canadian Zone mountain
canyons and deciduous woods.
Common Host Plants: Tree and shrubs; Salicaceae, Populus,
Rosaceae and Rhamnaceae.
Wing Span: 2-1/4" - 2-3/4" (57 - 70 mm)
