BUCKEYE (Precis coenia)

Flight Period: Many flights all year in southern California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and Florida.  Buckeye butterflies migrate northward during the summer months creating permanent populations.  They are commonly found in open places, such as meadows, fields, roadsides, or swamp edges.

Range: Found from southern Mexico to the Canadian border, Cuba, the Bahamas, and Bermuda. 

Common Host Plants: Plantain (Plantaginaceae), Figwort (Scrophulariaceae), Stonecrop (Crassulaceae), and Vervain (Verbenaceae).

Wing Span: 2 - 2 1/2" (51 - 63 mm).
