EDUCATION PROGRAMS

Over 30,000 children have participated in The Monarch Program's Butterfly Day, one of the most popular educational field trips for children in the San Diego area.  Our goals are to deliver a message to students about our fragile environment, to teach them more about plants and animals, and to inspire young children to explore the secrets of outdoor life.

Another popular program is called a Tagging Party -- when people gather at selected monarch overwintering sites to tag, photograph, and learn about monarchs.  We also include brief lectures, discussions, and hand-outs at these gatherings.  During the spring and summer months, we visit different geographic regions to study plants, butterflies, and other critters.

From time to time, the Monarch Program sponsors special events including West Coast Monarch Conferences, an open house, and special lecture series.  We also attend Southern California insect fairs, where we display educational materials, general information, butterfly host plants, and butterfly livestock.
